Garden Survey and Sketch Plan

In order to accuractly design a garden we need a detailed survey of the site. For all but the simplest of sites we recommend that you employ a professional land surveyor. Although this is an extra cost it is usually money well spent as even the smallest discrepancy between the garden survey and site can add significant costs during the gardens construction.

The designer then develops a sketch plan according to brief discussed at the consultation. This is the time when the garden designer is at the drawing board using their garden design expertise to create, refine and reject ideas as appropriate. Despite all the advances in technology CAD still has a long way to go before it can compete with the expression and gut instinct of drawing by hand. As a professionally trained artist, Alice's hand drawn garden plans are often throught to be beautiful drawings in their own right and many clients choose to frame them.

Once the hand drawn sketch plan is complete we will arrange a to meet and discuss the new design. The sketch plan shows the proposed layout of the garden and indicates materials, finishes and planting styles. The sketch plan is a garden layout plan but does not contain sufficient information to allow a contractor to build the garden - this is covered during the detailed design phase.

Detailed Design and Garden Construction Drawings

Once the sketch plan is agreed, the detailed design phase can begin. The detailed design and construction plans will illustrate and specify the particulars of the design – from the exact dimensions of steps, to the construction details for water features, bespoke fences and paving layout.

Computer aided drawing (CAD) allows the high degree of accuracy and repeatability these drawings require.

During this phase we will produce the drawings needed by the contractor during construction as well as specifying and sourcing all the materials you will need for the project. This is the most time intensive phase of the design work but once completed the construction should run smoothly, paving the quickest, simplest route to your finished garden.

Once these CAD garden plans are complete we can move on to tendering and construction.
