Soil mates : Achillea

From The Times, September 1, 2007

How to grow
Achillea are easy to grow – even from seed – and bulk up quickly in the border.

Although fully hardy, this shortlived perennial can die off over the winter months in wet soil, so plant in well-drained, sandy soil or beprepared to replace.

If growing from seed, Achillea ‘Summer Pastels Group’ are a particularly good choice, flowering just four months after sowing and producing flowers all the way from spring to the first frosts.

Suppliers: Achillea are available nationwide in garden centres.  They are also easy to grow from seed: try Thompson & Morgan (01473 688821).
